The programme
The programme PAL is the international major of the Dutch bachelor degree Sport, Health and Management (SHM).
The first year all Dutch and international students will follow a propaedeutic year which consists of 60 ECTS credits.
After the first year, students can choose for the Dutch or international major (180 ECTS). The Dutch major is called SHM, the international major is called PAL.
After graduation, all students receive the same bachelor degree (Sport, Health and Management). Students who graduated PAL will also receive an international consortium certificate in which all the consortium universities acknowledge the PAL programme. This certificate discloses very positive employment chances for all of the six countries taking part in PAL.

The major PAL is divided into six semesters
  1. Introductory semester
During this semester introductions in teaching didactics & physical activity, public health, applied basic health sciences, behavioral change models, presentation & communication and project management are offered in a theoretical and practical way.
  2. Health Enhancing Physical Activity
Students will get to know Physical Activity programmes suitable for the different stages of health and fitness levels of target groups
  3. Changing Behavior
Students will experience basic counselling skills (for example motivational interviewing) in order to help clients to lastingly adapt to a healthier lifestyle.
  4. Nutrition (exchange semester)
Students will learn about healthy nutrition, cultural differences in diet in Europe; diet-related health and how to help clients changing their eating habits.

While the semesters Changing Behavior, Health & Physical Activity, and Nutrition procure the knowledge to successfully work on the health issues, the semester Entrepreneurship enables students to thoroughly observe the job market and to find the best employment as a PAL professional .
