What is this programme about

This programme combines theory with practice and focuses on the key areas of internal communications, marketing communications and corporate communications. The study programme can be completed in a total of three years.

In the first year you will become acquainted with the fundamentals of communication as a discipline like corporate and internal communication, marketing communication and branding and public communication. In addition, you will learn how to operate in international teams. You will also work on communication issues with external clients.

In the second year you will be immersed more deeply in  public communication. Furthermore, we offer you the possibility to take two different minors in the area in which you would eventually like to specialise. Some students will be able to take minors or other subject combinations abroad.
The third year begins with a third minor, followed by intensive preparation for the second semester, during which you will do a work placement of several months at an international company or organisation abroad. In the third year you will also complete your final paper, reporting on the research you independently conducted as part of your programme.

During the study programme you will learn among other how to write communication plans, compile newsletters and produce commercial copy, write accessibly, act as spokesperson on difficult subjects, direct designers and advertising agencies, provide communication advice.

English language skills
Since our international Bachelor programmes are taught entirely in English, you will need a good command of the English language, both spoken and written. Bachelor candidates who were educated in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Ireland, United States, Canada (except for Quebec!), Australia, New-Zealand, South Africa or Malta, or students holding a diploma (including English as an exam subject) stated on this diploma list, need not take an English proficiency test. All other prospective students are required to hand in a valid and sufficient TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), TOEIC, IELTS (International English Language Testing System) or Cambridge ESOL (CAE/CPE) certificate to the Enrolment Centre.

Future career
As organisations and companies become multi-national, there is a bigger demand for policy makers and communication managers. Our graduates step into this challenging external communications environment in a range of institutions from commercial, to governmental or non-profit organisations, armed with strong international communication skills.

You can become a spokesperson, information officer, PR manager, policy advisor, communication advisor or project coordinator at small or large international companies, international organisations, communication agencies or as a freelancer. Of course you will start in a junior position. Smaller organisations will often employ you as an all-rounder while large organisations will often expect you to fulfil a more specialist role, for example in the area of internal communication, external communication, publicity or marketing.
