Over the past decade the definition and use of games has become broader. Games can offer more than entertainment, they can offer solutions. From advertising and branding to education, self-awareness and even changes in behaviour.
Is this a programme for you? Ask yourself if the following applies to you: You like gaming, but you are also curious about what makes a game work: the mechanics, design and development. You are creative, eager to work together to reach a goal and you believe in the broad potential of games. This 4 year international major in Game Design & Development prepares you for an (international) career in the field of game design and development. You will work on game concepts, 2D and 3D artwork, game development and game production. While working in a team, you learn how you can turn a game concept into a final product and how to involve the end user in the development of the product. There is extra emphasis on research, innovation, intercultural communication and entrepreneurship. Furthermore, you will work on developing specific professional skills needed as a game designer, game artist, game developer or game evaluator.
Although fully English-taught, Game Design & Development is part of the Dutch study programme Communication & Multimedia Design. As such, the following terms will appear on your diploma:
Programme: Communication & Multimedia Design Major: Game Design & Development Degree: Bachelor of Science
After your study, you can start working in the international games industry as a game designer, game artist, or game developer. Examples of possible entry-level positions are game tester, scripter, or prop artist. In your career you can grow towards project manager, producer or lead.
