Introduction

Admission restrictions are, unlike other countries, not very common in the Netherlands.
Nevertheless, even in the Netherlands there are frequently requested degree programmes such as veterinary medicine, dentistry and human medicine and also some programmes that deal with economy which have admission restrictions because of high demand.

Registration restrictions apply in the following cases only:

• The Dutch government limits admittance to the courses to avoid a possible surplus of labour. Limits are based on analyses of the labour market and calculated forecasts of employment opportunities on the Dutch market.
  
• The demand exceeds the maximum number of students. In the Netherlands, restrictions are put in place on the basis of the application process, depending on individual demand.
