Educational requirements:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in one of the social sciences, valued at three years of Dutch academic training.
Other requirements
Grade point average (GPA) of at least an A /4.0 (American system), a first class honours degree (British system), B (ECTS system), 7.5 (Dutch system)
Objectives:
Prepare students who are interested in a career as an academic or applied researcher in the field of urban studies. The focus is on metropolitan development, especially in the Western world.
Subjects:
Social segregation; development of creative knowledge cities; social cohesion in neighbourhoods; dynamics in home-work relations; spatial planning and multi-level governance; the development of urban transport facilities in network society; immigrant self-employment in the multi-cultural city; metropolitan businesses and international networks
Modes of instruction:
Seminars and tutorials with supervision by specialists devoted to the in-depth study of a variety of topics. Supervised individual research resulting in a thesis. All classes are taught in small groups, with a maximum of 20 students.
