European Studies (Uni)

The European Studies programme is a unique degree course offered jointly by a Dutch and a German university. Lectures are held at the Faculty of Business, Public Administration and Technology (University of Twente) and the Institute for Political Science (Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster). Students who successfully complete this programme receive a double ‘Dutch-German’ diploma.

The ES programme does not focus solely on the EU in Brussels, but also on the impact of EU politics on Member States (and vice versa). Various levels of European governance are highlighted. Comparisons are made between the structure and policy of European organisations with those of current and candidate Member States. A primary focus is the evolution of the debate on European integration, which touches on such issues as EU expansion, social policies, the internal market, foreign policy, security policy and EU trade and environmental issues. Students learn about and come to understand the economic, legal, political and sociological aspects involved. The strength of this Master’s programme is its multi-disciplinary approach.
