Int. Business Economics (HBO)

The increasing internationali-zation of business, the growth in the great economic blocs such as the EU, the rising scale and legislative complex-ity of business in the world and the growing importance of financial functions are all fac-tors that suggest a growing need for international busi¬ness economics specialists in the future.

This minor will therefore be dealing with several interna¬tional economical issues that today's companies are facing.

Main issues will be:
Investment decisions in an international setting
(investments in working capital and longterm investments)
international management accounting
(in a decentralised company)

Students that want to take it must have a good command of English. The minor is open for students that have obtained at least 105 ECs in the first two years of study.

Topics that will be studied in detail are the concept of the balanced score card and venture capital criteria. Itgoes without saying that another major issue in this minor will be sustainable growth.

Generell
The individual national markets, trades and currencies are growing towards a united global business sphere. For young adults an international education is an important step towards the future world. Especially, the economics courses offer excellent prospects. Not only production companies, but also the rapidly growing Tertiary Sector (trade, banks, insurance, and consultancy) and government need qualified economists in all departments.

Shareholder Value, Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity, Hedge Funds…If you open the political section of a newspaper or listen to the daily news, the significance of the complex modern economy for worldwide politics is very apparent. As it is possible for everyone to see through these processes, to understand their meaning and even to take part in them, is a thrilling and promising challenge.

Content of the programme
How do I manage an enterprise? Where can I make high profits? How can I keep the costs in control? How do I behave in an international context? Which influence do the international tax law and the worldwide finance- and commerce market have?
When you would like to find the answers to these questions, then our economic study programme International Business Economics (IBE) is the right choice for you! The main points of IBE are business administration, finance, organisation, budgeting, tax, controlling, calculation, investment analysis, logistics, management techniques and much more. Informatics and data management will complete your economical knowledge. Parallel to these topics you will receive a clear insight in basics of marketing and you will be exposed to relevant soft skills.

Study Programme
All courses at Fontys International Campus Venlo have duration of four years. Each year is made up of two semesters. The first course year is called Foundation Year. The Foundation Year offers room for orientation and selection.
After the first year you enter the three-year Main Phase. In the second course year this Main Phase consists of the acquisition of professional competences in the Young Enterprise Project. During the Work Placement in the third course year all students go to companies for a 5-month work placement. After this you return to ‘the Learning Community’ for feedback and additional subjects. During the two minors you will get the chance to broaden and/or deepen your knowledge. At the end of the course you will write your graduation assignment. Once again this takes place within the framework of a 5-month work placement in a company.

Our Education Profile for your Future
Fontys International Campus orientates itself on all fields of modern didactical principles. We focus less on studying of separate subjects, but far more on achieving professional competences, which form the core of our study and learning processes.
Our study course is therefore based on five important pillars: the practical orientation (e.g. work placements, working on certain projects for an enterprise), the theory (facts and knowledge), the skills (by workshops, training etc.), the integration (by covering projects) finally, these activities are supported by professional self management and an individual coach.
International Business Economics offers all professional skills and experience areas, which are of a great business value in the international economical process. Students learn the theory, but also how to apply it. Simultaneously, they learn how to improve their skills continuously.

The assignments contain i.e. drawing up a balance sheet and economical tests in a national and international context, enterprise estimation, strategic planning or the managing of a department with an economical and ethnical responsibility.

Competences and Future profession
To be able to learn and experience these competences as realistic and as practical as possible, every semester will cover a specific feature of your future profession. Students get to know one or more characteristic professional situation, which they will be able to apply in their future job.
Typical professions are in the fields of Controlling, Costs and Accounting, M&A, Due Diligence or Tax. Typical functions are consultant or analyst and they are responsible for risk management, organisation and internal communication.
